Chris Sowton has more than 25 years of experience working in language education in many different contexts. In this talk he discusses the wide range of different contexts he has worked in, ranging from teacher training in Nepal, teaching English for Academic Purposes at KCL and Cambridge University, writing more than 20 ELT books for students and teachers, and working for the British Council on language-centred projects all around the world, including China, Indonesia, Tunisia, Palestine and India. He will focus in particular on his recent work working on ‘language for resilience’ projects in Lebanon, Jordan and Syria, his work as head trainer on a literacy project in northern Nigeria, and creating podcasts about language teaching. He has conducted teacher training and educational research in many countries, including Lebanon, Jordan, Palestine, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, India, Somaliland, China and Indonesia. Most recently, he was the host and co-creator of the British Council’s podcast The Climate Connection, which explores language education and the climate crisis.
