Bootcamp Day Three: Talent

We have three great sessions lined up for you. All sessions will be interactive and are designed to provide you with practical takeaways that you can then put into immediate action.


Session Details*:


12pm: Changing Careers with Confidence

Meet the Birkbeck Talent Team. In this session, we will talk in more detail about the right steps to confidently steer your career in a new direction. Expect an interactive session with hands-on advice.


3pm: Psychometric Testing

Recruiters often use a wide range of selection tests, such as psychometric tests, to assess specific skills as part of their recruitment process and this session can help you to prepare for these.

This session will be led by Emma Lee, Chief Psychologist for Matthew Syed Consulting. She leads the creation and delivery of leadership development programmes, based on scientific principles and the latest research, that drive measurable performance improvements for individuals, teams and organisations.

Throughout her career, she has worked with a range of psychometric assessments, such as ability, personality, motivation, situational judgement, and simulations. She has designed selection processes, including assessment centres, for large organisations.

6pm: Employer Panel - Trends in Recruitment

In this panel we will discuss current trends in recruitment. Join this session with industry professionals to see the hiring process through the lens of an employer and gain useful insight for your next career move.

Confirmed panelists include:

  • Chen Weng from London-based FinTech start up Bondsmith: Birkbeck alumnus, Chen has been working as a software engineer in early-stage startups as well as scale-up companies going through rapid growth. He is heavily involved in software engineering hiring, especially for early career hires such as interns and graduates. 


  • Helen Reeves from the Local Government Association: Helen manages the National Graduate Development Programme for local government. The NGDP, which has been running for over 20 years, is a fast track management scheme which matches passionate and able graduates with local authorities around the UK to create the next generation of public sector managers and leaders.


  • Inga Crouch from the UKGBC: Inga is UKGBC’s People Manager, responsible for leading the end-to-end employee lifecycle. Having previously worked in Hospitality, Higher Education and the Technology sector Inga brings diverse experience in hiring and developing early careers. 


All sessions will be delivered online on Blackboard Collaborate. Once you have registered you will receive a link closer to the time of the day to join. If you require any adjustments for the sessions, please let Birkbeck Talent know at by 21st July at the latest so that we have time to implement them.
