The Online Practice of Public History: in-person workshop with History Workshop for MA students

When:
Venue: Birkbeck Central

Booking essential. Contact Katy k.pettit@bbk.ac.uk

Join the editors of History Workshop, the digital magazine of radical history, for a hands-on in-person workshop about doing public history online

Digital and online spaces have evolved rapidly in recent years. Reflecting these shifts, the practice of public history must, of necessity, move far beyond the ‘blogs’ that dominated the Internet 1.0.

Drawing on fifteen years of experience at History Workshop, we will ask:

  •  Who are you hoping to reach, and how can rigorous research be made accessible and relevant to this audience?
  •  How can we stretch and play with the written formats that have traditionally characterised academic history?
  •  What other media can we use to communicate creatively and engagingly?
  •  How can historians navigate the rapidly-changing landscape of social media and a fractured attention economy?

The workshop will include the opportunity to workshop ideas for an article, podcast, or series, with feedback from peers and History Workshop editors.
