The release of the government’s Post 16 Education and Skills White Paper has confirmed the rumours that a new qualification, V Levels, “will become the only pathway of vocational qualifications at level 3 for 16 to 19-year-olds”. This will also impact on alternative academic qualifications (AAQs), launched this September. With V Levels due to launch from 2027 and BTECs being scrapped from 2026, this raises serious concerns about what colleges will be able to offer students during this transition period.

To help us unpick what we know so far and what this means for college providers, will be hearing from Ria Bhatta Head of Stakeholder Engagement Pearson and Noni Csogor, Research and Policy Manager at The Sixth Form Colleges Association.

Following a partner round table update, which will include feedback from our college partners on next steps as well as from universities on their initial take on V Levels in terms of progression to HE, we will also be looking at approaches to supporting BTEC learners with their next steps post course. With over 270,000 students still studying Applied General Qualifications, helping BTEC learners make informed choices and successful transitions is still as important as ever. At the meeting we will be hearing from Claire Read from the Ark Academy who will be outlining their innovative programme of support for BTEC learners and what works from their perspective.

These meetings are aimed at FE staff, including teaching and curriculum leads and managers, careers advisers, as well as university colleagues in admissions and widening participation roles. However, anyone with an interest in BTEC learners and progression to HE, as well as the latest policy updates in this space, is welcome to attend.

Please note this event is for Linking London Partners only.
