Guidance for prospective MPhil/PhD students
The Department of Philosophy has a flourishing community of MPhil/PhD research students.
Over the last 10 years, up to July 2020, 13 PhD graduates from our department have obtained permanent academic positions, in the UK, Europe and further afield, while two more are currently on postdoctoral positions.
We warmly welcome enquiries from research students looking for supervision. If you would like help finding a supervisor, you can contact the Admissions Tutor for Research Students, Dr Michael Garnett.
Training and development
We offer our students first-rate professional philosophical training:
- Termly training sessions: each term, we provide training sessions to our research students, covering researching, writing, presenting and teaching.
- Approaches to Philosophy talks: at these regular events, you'll get the opportunity philosophers from different universities talking about their work.
