Module description

The Middle East today is still something of a mystery to most Europeans, in spite of its prominence in current politics. This module will introduce you to the main developments in domestic and international politics of the area, and the accelerating societal shifts that have underpinned those developments, since the collapse of the last great Islamic state, the Ottoman empire. For the purposes of the course, the Middle East is defined as the Arab world, Israel, Iran and Turkey.

Through the insights gained from this module, you should be able to understand the roots of current issues in Middle Eastern social and political development.
