In this module we support you in the development of your postgraduate dissertation and introduce you to the range of methods used in the social sciences for research.

The first two sessions are devoted to the process of developing a literature review and the second two sessions to the various data-gathering methods that can be deployed in the social sciences. By the end of the first term you should have a good understanding of how to do a literature review and identify a research question and what kinds of data you will need to answer your research question. In the second term you work with your supervisor to develop your research method. In the third term you are introduced to the range of methods used to do data analysis and the practices of writing.

This module is taught in alternate weeks in the first and third terms.
