Computational Approaches to Mind
Overview
- Credit value: 15 credits at Level 7
- Convenor: Dr Raffaele Tucciarelli
- Assessment: a written essay (100%)
Module description
The module will present in detail the main computational modelling paradigms in cognitive science. It consists of three sessions on connectionism, three on symbolic approaches to cognition, three on logic and inference, and one on mathematical models (emphasising the distinction between process and normative models).
Learning objectives
By the end of this module, you will be:
- familiar with a number of computational approaches to cognition
- able to describe the strengths and weaknesses of these approaches
- able to generate arguments for and against the different approaches in different domains.
