Module description

The module aims to:

  • introduce the aims and methods of health psychology
  • develop a critical appreciation of methodological issues in studying health-related behaviour
  • develop an appreciation of the value and application of research findings in health psychology
  • develop an appreciation of the role of psychology in understanding and changing health-related behaviours.

Learning objectives

By the end of this module, you should be able to:

  • understand the aims and methods of health psychology, and be aware of the need for evidence-based practice
  • know and understand the significance of a range of research findings in health psychology across topics such as screening, stress and coping with stress, obesity and dieting, and coping with serious illness.
