Module description

This module explores the complex interface between crime and science, including key topics such neuroscience, genetics, forensics and psychiatric and psychological expertise. It begins with an overview of historical attempts within criminology to ground the problem of criminal subjectivity in science. It then explores the different ways that genetics and neuroscience have been introduced into the field of criminology and criminal law.

The module raises questions about how media and contemporary culture have influenced the turn towards science in legal practice. It also addresses the power of experts and critically examines forms of forensic fraud.
