Module description

In this module we provide you with a solid grounding in the key policy and research issues relating to youth crime and justice, while also equipping you with the necessary skills to critically evaluate new policies, policing tactics and sentencing proposals.

There is a growing concern amongst the general population over youth crime, gang-related activity and the perceived ineffectiveness of the police and youth justice system. The general population view criminally active young people as 'out of control' and believe that the youth justice system needs to punish a little more and understand a little less. This view is in direct conflict with those that work with young people within the youth justice system.

This module will provide you with an opportunity to consider a range of perspectives on these and other debates about young people, crime and justice.
