Mathematics Essay

- Assessment: an essay plan (10%) and 3000-word essay (90%)
Module description
This module consists of three lectures, each on a different mathematical topic; past topics have included the four-colour problem, the origins of the calculus and the history of solving polynomials. There will also be training on the software that can be used to produce mathematical expressions and equations in typed documents.
You will then be given a choice of essay topics, and will produce an essay by the end of the spring term. Guidance on mathematical writing will be given during the module, including individualised feedback on a draft of your essay. You will also be given feedback on your completed essay, which will be useful preparation for the completion of your dissertation.
