MSc Advanced Computing Project


  • Credit value: 60 credits at Level 7
  • Convenor and tutor: Professor George Magoulas
  • Assessment: a 2000-3000-word project proposal (20%) and 10,000-word project report (80%)

Module description

You will be required to undertake an individual project of your own choosing, under the supervision of a staff member. In order to arrange supervision for the project, you should discuss possible projects with the Projects Tutor, Programme Director or with the lecturer who seems the most appropriate for the topic.

For the MSc Data Analytics, the project should have a main focus in the area of data analytics.

Indicative module content

Supported by your supervisor, you will complete the main part of this module independently. A small part of this module is taught, and you will learn how to:

  • formulate the objectives/aims of an MSc project
  • write a project proposal
  • organise and plan the project
  • research literature
  • write a project report.

Learning objectives

By the end of this module, you will have:

  • developed a systematic understanding and critical awareness of an agreed problem relevant to the MSc programme
  • planned and executed a major piece of programming work appropriate to the MSc programme
  • critically presented existing approaches in the problem area, placed your own approach in the wider area and evaluated your contribution
  • communicated complex ideas/concepts and approaches/techniques by writing a comprehensive, self-contained report.
