Module description

This module aims to examine the way in which Montaigne, after testing his judgment on various matters, comes gradually to realise that his main aim is to study himself. It will highlight his originality and his considerable influence on subsequent writers. It will look at his lively, concrete style and at the way his work evolves over time. You will acquire many ideas relevant to other modules, such as Dissertation or French Thought, and should feel enriched by your encounter with this great thinker.
