Module description

This module allows you to research and produce an extended piece of writing on a topic of your choice that falls within the parameters of the programme. You will receive one-to-one support from your dissertation supervisor and also have the opportunity to harness peer support and present your work in tutor-guided workshops.

Learning objectives

By the end of this module, you will be able to demonstrate:

  • advanced knowledge of a specific Arts-related subject area gained through independent research
  • an understanding of, and an ability to apply, appropriate disciplinary frameworks and methodologies in your own research
  • an ability to deal with complex issues both systematically and creatively and to communicate your conclusions clearly to an informed audience
  • self-direction and originality in relation to the analysis of texts and/or images and/or material cultural and their contexts
  • qualities and transferable skills necessary for employment requiring, e.g. the exercise of initiative and personal responsibility and the ability to learn independently and apply that learning in the production of knowledge.
