Overview
This new Organisational Change, Medical Leadership and Strategy short course is offered by Birkbeck in partnership with the Royal College of Physicians (RCP). It is designed for senior clinicians in the modern-day medical workplace seeking to enhance their skills and knowledge to be effective leaders of change, working compassionately, ethically and informed by best evidence. The course is ideal for:
- Clinical directors
- Substantive consultants
- Nurses with senior managerial roles
- GPs
- SAS doctors with management roles
Classes are available to register on this course.
It consists of three online sessions hosted by Birkbeck on:
- Friday 23 September 2022, 2-4pm
- Friday 18 November 2022, 2-4pm
- Friday 9 December 2022, 2-4pm (group presentations)
These sessions supplement a three-day face-to-face teaching block delivered in purpose-built facilities at the RCP in London on:

Wednesday-Friday, 2-4 November 2022, 9.30am-5.30pm
You will also have access to video resources and readings and complete individual learning activities. Academic content is put into clinical context through case studies delivered by expert facilitators from the NHS, including medical directors and hospital chief executives.
The course addresses organisational change and strategy and leading a diverse workforce. We will focus on:
- change leadership
- decision making
- healthcare strategy and finance to support change management
- a consultancy versus evidence-based management perspective on change.
Assessment is via a group project delivered as an online oral presentation (20%) and a 5500-word individual case study (80%), which is due:

This short course is offered to registered healthcare professionals, so we will review these details when you enrol.
As part of the enrolment process, you may be required to submit a copy of a suitable form of ID.
International students who wish to come to the UK to study a short course can apply for a Visitor visa. Please note that it is not possible to obtain a Student visa to study a short course.
