News from other college Living Wage campaigns

Queen Mary has now completed its process of becoming a Socially Responsible Employer by bringing all of its contracted services back in-house.  This was in response to a campaign by staff, students and community activists.

The London School of Economics is requiring that as each contract for outsourced services is renewed, that the new contractor pays the London Living Wage to its staff.  This process is expected to be completed in 2009.

At Kingston University in south west London, UNISON has negotiated a new minimum wage of £7.50 an hour for support staff, having signed a pay deal deal with the Kingston University Service Company (KUSCO) – which provides support services such as cleaning, transport, student residential management, and security – which will see it’s lowest paid employees received £7.50 an hour from 1 February 2008, rising to £7.80 an hour in February 2009.
