Birkbeck Sustainability Initiatives

For many years Birkbeck has been taking initiatives to incorporate sustainability in its operations. However, it has not always made all of its its green initiatives terribly well known to staff, students and other stakeholders such as our neighbours in Bloomsbury. For instance, in the late 1990s, Birkbeck was one of the first universities to publish an Environmental/Sustainability Policy Statement and to declare its aim to establish an environmental management system.  Birkbeck also conducted an Environmental Review of its activities in 1999 - a process that it is soon to repeat.

These pages aim to try and make up for this past lack of publicity by setting out where and how  Birkbeck is active in engaging in or encouraging sustainability.  Click on a heading at the left hand column to find out what Birkbeck does in that particular field.
