Environmental Management (Foundation Degree) - 2013/2014 entry
Do you wish to combine academic study with crucial work-based experience? Perhaps you already work in the environmental sector and you wish to reflect on your current practice? Study social science, physical science and management approaches to environmental issues, including environmental impact assessments, management systems and sustainability indicators. Graduates of our Foundation Degree can progress into the final years of our BSc Environmental Management, BSc Environmental Science, BSc Geography or BSc Professional Studies. You can study this course in central London or Stratford.

Course structure
In Year 1 (one term), you will take core modules giving you a foundation in political, social and ethical issues related to environmental management, with the opportunity to develop your critical study skills. In Years 2 and 3 you will take a combination of core and option modules on specialist aspects of environmental management, together with applied modules that take your skills into work-relevant settings.
Year 1 (one term)
- Introductions: Environmental Issues
- Foundations in Environmental Science.
Year 2
- Environment, Economy and Society in Europe
- Humans and the Environment
- Work-Related Learning (Environmental Consultancy 1).
Year 3
- Work-Based Project (Environmental Consultancy 2)
- Two option modules.
You can choose from a range of option modules, which may include:
- Britain’s Geographical Development
- Conservation: People, Policy and Practice
- Ecological Communities: Structure and Function
- Environment and Security
- Environmental Processes
- Methods, Analysis and Techniques.

Further study opportunities
After successfully completing the Foundation Degree, you can progress into the final years of certain Birkbeck BSc degrees, including BSc Environmental Management, BSc Environmental Science, BSc Geography or BSc Professional Studies.
