Economic and Social Policy (BSc) (Part-time) - 2013/2014 entry
Many jobs in the private and public sector require people who are able to provide concise interpretations of policy issues and who understand the nature of economic, social, political and geographical change. Study economic, social and geographical theories and learn how to apply these to contemporary policy issues. This interdisciplinary course focuses on the important economic and political issues of the contemporary world. We have an excellent reputation for the quality of our teaching, providing training for employers such as the Treasury and the Bank of England.
This course is also available for full-time evening study.

Course structure
You are required to complete 12 modules to obtain 360 credits. 6 compulsory modules are covered in the years 1 and 2. In years 3 & 4 students choose 6 options.
The core of the degree consists of six modules specifically designed to provide you with an introduction to the pivotal concerns of the social sciences and two study skills modules. In Years 3 and 4, you choose from a range of specialist options in economics, politics, sociology and geography.
Years 1 and 2
Years 1 and 2 aim to provide core, cross-disciplinary knowledge, and the years are offered on a rotation scheme. First- and second-year students are taught together.
You take the following modules:
- Introduction to Economic Principles and Policy
- IT Skills for Social Science
- Social Relations and Social Policy
- Study Techniques.
Years 3 and 4
Take six option modules from a range of specialised subjects in economics, geography and sociology, or write a dissertation in place of one option. Option modules may include:

- Financial Institutions and Markets
- Globalisation in the Contemporary World
- Intermediate Macroeconomics
- Intermediate Microeconomics
- Issues in Development Economics
