Languages and History (French / German / Portuguese / Spanish) (BA) - 2013/2014 entry

Course structure
You complete the equivalent of 12 full (30-credit) modules, normally taking six history modules and six culture and language modules. Depending on entry level, a maximum of four of these will be from one of the languages on offer, forming a language pathway. If you start with language pathway B, you will take three modules at Level 4, four modules at Level 5 and five modules at Level 6. For al other language pathways you will take two modules at Level 4, five modules at Level 5 and five modules at Level 6.
Year 1
- one core language module (Level 4 or 5 according to language pathway)
- one language content option module (Level 4) from: Imagining France; Cultural Perspectives on German History; Studying the Hispanic, Luso-Brazilian and Native American Worlds
- Study Skills (history, Level 4).
Year 2
- one core language module (Level 5 or 6, according to language pathway)
- one language content or Group 1 history module (Level 5)
- one language content or Group 1 history module (Level 5)
Year 3
- one core language or language content option module (Level 5 or 6)
- one language content option module or one group 1 or 2 history module (Level 5 or 6)
- one language content option module or Group 2 history module (Level 6)
Year 4
- one core language or language content option module (Level 6)
- one language content option module or Group 2 history module (Level 6)
- core history dissertation project (Level 6).
Languages and History/History and Language classification
If you enter the language pathway at complete beginners’ or lower intermediate level, the degree awarded is, for example, BA History and Language (German).
For entry levels from upper intermediate to proficiency, the degree awarded is, for example, BA German and History.
