Journalism and Media (BA) (Part-time) - 2013/2014 entry
Are you a budding journalist keen to acquire practical journalistic skills? Do you want to gain a critical understanding of the rapidly changing fields of journalism and media? This degree combines the academic analysis of media with practical teaching from experienced industry professionals. Through a unique multi-disciplinary approach, you will develop an understanding of the political, historical, cultural and social contexts in which journalists operate. In practical modules, you will not only discover how the industry works, but learn how to write and broadcast across a range of specialisations, genres and platforms.
This course is also available for full-time evening study.

Course structure
You complete the equivalent of 12 full (30-credit) modules, taking the equivalent of two (decelerated part-time), three (part-time) or four (accelerated part-time) full modules a year. No more than five practical modules may be taken.
Year 1
Two compulsory modules at Level 4:
Plus one full module (or equivalent) at Level 4 option modules, which may include:
- Alternative and Activist Media
- Government and Ethics for Journalists
- Making the Web Work
- News on the Net.
Years 2–4
Compulsory modules:
- Journalism and Politics
- Media and Society
- Final Year Project.
Option modules at Levels 5 and 6 may include:
- Cultural Identity and the Media
- Documentary
- Dynamic Web Communications
- Effective Website Development
- History of Journalism
- Interview Skills and Feature Writing

- Media, Technology and Everyday Life
