Geography (BSc) (Full-time evening study) - 2013/2014 entry
Learn about environmental sustainability, globalisation, development and social exclusion from a range of approaches to the study of societies at local, regional and global scales. Develop the social and natural science geographical skills required for academic research and the workplace, by studying climate change, natural hazards, urban environments, information technology and Geographical Information Systems. Enhance your practical skills by taking part in a range of field trips and practical classes.
This course is also available for part-time study.

Course structure
Year 1
You will take four compulsory modules:
- Basic Principles of Geographical Information Science (GIS)
- Britain's Geographical Development
- Global Environmental Issues
- Humans and the Environment.
Year 2
You will take three compulsory modules:
- Environmental Processes
- European Economy, Society and Environment
- Methods, Analysis and Techniques
and choose between either Applications of Geographical Information Science (GIS) or Geographies of the City.
Year 3
You will choose from a range of option modules worth a total of 120 credits. Please note: you must take either a literature review or an independent research project.
- Environmental Literature Review (30 credits) and three option modules
- Independent Environmental Study (60 credits) and two option modules.
A selection of option modules are available each year, which could include:
- Advanced Geographical Information Science (GIS) - requires Basic Principles and Applications of GIS to have been studied
- Applied Hydrology
- Coastal Processes and Management
- Environment and Development
- Environmental Modelling
- Gender, Space and Time
- Glaciology
- Globalisation in the Contemporary World
- Regional Environments and Planning
- Remote Sensing
