Course structure
You must complete modules worth a total of 360 credits. Typically, this will take the form of 90 credits per year (three full modules or equivalent).
Year 1
Compulsory modules:
- Introduction to Creative Writing: Fiction
- Introduction to Creative Writing: Poetry and Drama
- Independent Reading Portfolio: The Short Story (half-module).
Plus an optional half-module: either Screenwriting; Media Genres; or Literary Theory
Year 2
Compulsory modules:
- Fiction Workshop 1
- Independent Reading Portfolio: Genres (half-module)
- The Life of the Writer (half-module).
Plus an option module: either Poetry; Drama; Screenwriting; or English Literature.
Year 3
Compulsory modules:
- Creative Non-Fiction
- Independent Reading Portfolio: Form (half-module)
- The Writing Industry (half-module).
Plus an option module: either Fiction; Poetry; Radio Drama; Screenwriting; or English Literature.
Year 4
The course structure for this year is still under development. Modules listed are indicative.

- Dissertation: Extended Writing Project
- Independent Reading Portfolio: Critical Reflection (half-module)
- Performance Project (half-module)
- Publishing Project.
