    • Coursework relating to the core course and specialist modules; two-paper written examination; dissertation of 10,000–12,000 words. Each element contributes roughly one-third to the assessment.

  • Attendance
      • Core modules taught during occasional weekend meetings (all day Friday and Saturday) at Birkbeck (October–May), and a residential week held in the UK at Easter each year.
      • Additional specialist modules either taught as one-week residential courses in the UK or as a series of weekend sessions based at Birkbeck.

      • Two years part-time.

      • Part-time (home/EU students): £3774 pa (£4151 pa) 
      • Part-time (overseas students): £6702 pa

  • Course structure

    • Core modules:

      • The Countryside Resource: the physical and ecological background to the countryside, including key habitats and landscapes, and strategies for their management.
      • People and the System: the social and political framework of countryside management, focusing predominantly on the users of the countryside, and the social and legislative framework within which it is managed.

      Choose two specialist modules. Modules available in 2011–2012 were:

      Dissertation: this gives you the opportunity to pursue an independent project under expert supervision.
