Voluntary and Community Sector Studies (MSc / Postgraduate Diploma / Postgraduate Certificate) - 2012/2013 entry
-
Overview
Voluntary and community organisations in the UK are experiencing unparalleled changes as recent politics have drawn them into the mainstream policy agenda, both in public service delivery and the new Big Society agenda. They are contributing their expertise to social inclusion and community-organising initiatives in work with diverse groups. However, the rapidly changing emphasis, contract culture and severe reductions to public sector budgets have affected the sector’s infrastructure, its autonomy and its relationships with local community stakeholders and service users.
This programme focuses on key debates about the changing roles and contexts of voluntary sector organisations, adopting a critical and interdisciplinary approach. It considers recent theory and developments, aiming to extend conceptual knowledge, understanding and critical reflection of changes in the context of current social policy concerns and organisational practices. It provides opportunities for you to develop innovative models in research and project-based assignments relevant to your individual interests, the sector and the field of study.
