  • Assessment

    • To pass a module or the project, you must obtain a mark of at least 50 per cent. There are two-hour written examinations for each of the taught modules. In addition, there are also compulsory coursework components to some of the modules, which must be passed in order to pass that module. The project is judged on a report of approximately 10,000 words for an implementation project (plus related technical submissions) or a report of approximately 16,000 words for a research dissertation.

  • Teaching

    • Formal lectures are the principal teaching method, but in most modules these are enhanced with practical activities, which may be computer laboratory-based, group collaborations or presentations. There is a significant element of practical coursework: this can be carried out in supported lab sessions and also in your own time.

      The individual project, supervised by a member of staff, provides an opportunity to investigate an aspect that particularly interests you and either to build a larger and more complex system than you encounter in the assignments, or to perform social science research into a currently emerging information-oriented phenomenon.

  • Overview

    • This programme covers practical aspects of information systems development, modern management topics and professionalism in IT. If you already have experience of working in the IT industry, the programme aims to provide opportunities for broadening and deepening your knowledge and skills. If you do not have previous experience, the programme aims to provide a platform for a career in the IT industry.

      You will gain an advanced level of understanding of computers, computing, software development, and how to design and implement software systems. The programme also covers the use of information systems in organisations, and the management of IT and information systems.
