Overview
The London Consortium graduate programme brings together five internationally renowned institutions: the Architectural Association School of Architecture, Birkbeck, the Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA), the Science Museum, and Tate.
This programme leads to the award of Master of Research. It can also be the first year of the London Consortium PhD/MPhil Humanities and Cultural Studies programme. A one-year full-time taught course, it offers a specially selected programme of cultural events, plus teaching by internationally distinguished regular and visiting faculty. Core coursework is combined with personal research.

Course structure
A series of five core modules designed to develop multidisciplinary approaches. The core modules change from year to year. The modules for 2011–2012 were:
- Antigone
- Coldness: Towards a Political Thermodynamics of Culture
- Down: Melancholy, Depression and Regeneration
- Experiment
- Scratches, Tracings, Spacings.
Information on the modules for 2012–2013 will be available on the Consortium's website later this year.
You also take part in a research methods seminar, in research development workshops, and in research jury presentations.
MRes students will write a dissertation of 12,000 words to be submitted by 30 September in the academic year of your degree programme.
