  • Assessment
    • Short tests, written examinations, coursework, group work and poster sessions. Minimum pass mark of 50 per cent.
  • Attendance
      • One–two evenings a week part-time; three evenings a week full-time.
      • October–September.
  • Duration
      • Two years part-time or one year full-time.
  • Entry requirements
      • Normally at least a second-class honours degree in any subject area from a UK university or a non-UK equivalent; other qualifications will be considered.
      • Non-native English speakers need to provide proof of English language ability (equivalent to IELTS 6.5 with at least 6.0 in all sub-parts). TOEFL (paper-based: score of 600, plus 5 in TWE; internet: score of 100, plus 24/30 in the reading and writing subtests), the Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (pass at grade B) or the Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English (pass at grade A) will also be accepted. If scores are slightly below the required level, students should apply anyway, as a pre-sessional English course may be recommended.
      • A professional or other qualification obtained by written examinations approved by the College.
      • Relevant experience, supporting statements and references may be taken into consideration, especially in the case of non-standard applications.

  • Teaching

    • Lectures followed by seminars to help you apply the topics covered. Seminars will include discussion, worked examples and exercises, case studies, and student presentations. There will be a range of guest speakers from industry.

      You will receive expert research supervision in the preparation of your dissertation.

Accounting and Financial Management (MSc) - 2012/2013 entry


  • Overview

    • This is a generalist MSc and will be relevant to those who wish to pursue a career in accounting and to those who require a thorough knowledge of accounting as budget-holders.

      We expect the MSc to be accredited by the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), and hopefully also by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), with significant exemptions (roughly 50 per cent of all examinations), as is the case with our undergraduate programmes.

    • The MSc will allow graduates to pursue a career in accounting, either as financial or management accountants. Alternatively, it will allow you to work within the accounting or finance function within a corporation, or to pursue a general managerial career.
