Teaching and Supporting Learning in Higher Education (Graduate Certificate) - 2012/2013 entry
-
Overview
This course offers you the opportunity to develop your skills in teaching; to obtain a recognised teaching qualification and associate membership of the HEA; to update yourself in current debates and issues in learning and teaching; and to teach in higher education. Participants will usually be new to teaching in higher education.
You will learn about the principles and practice of teaching by reflecting on the factors that contribute to effective learning and teaching. The course is highly participatory, with modules encouraging critical reflection on professional practice, and extending opportunities for you to work with peers to share and develop good practice. The assignments are related to practice, and enable you to develop a greater understanding of the subject material, including the integration of research and teaching.
The course reflects the need to consider issues of learning and teaching that will meet the changing educational, cultural and training needs of adults who are engaged in earning their livelihood, and others who are able to benefit; with special responsibilities to meet the needs of mature part-time students.
