This programme offers a solid core in public management, together with the flexibility to choose from a wide range of modules from the Department of Management, the Department of Politics, and elsewhere at Birkbeck.

Course structure
Please note that there are two variants of this degree: the MSc, and the more research-intensive MRes. For both degree programmes, you must successfully complete modules worth 180 credits.
All students take the following core modules (if you are studying for a part-time degree, you must take these in your first year):
- Principles of Organization and Management
- Research Methods 1
- Public Management: Theories and Innovations (double module).
MSc students must take four option modules from the Department of Management or the Department of Politics such as:
- Accounting and Financial Management
- Development Policy
- Environmental Management and Business Policy
- European Management
- Innovation, Networks, and Social Capital
- Perspectives on Organisation
- Public Policy: Equality and Redistribution (double module)
- Public Policy: Interests, Ideas, Institutions (double module)
- Qualitative Research Methods
- Statistical Methods for Business Research.
MSc students complete a dissertation worth 60 credits. This is your own research, undertaken with the advice of a member of the academic staff.
MRes students must take either Qualitative Research Methods (15 credits) or Statistical Methods for Business Research (15 credits), plus one elective from the list above (15 credits).
