Medical Leadership (MSc / Postgraduate Diploma / Postgraduate Certificate) - 2013/2014 entry
-
Overview
Jointly delivered by Birkbeck, University of London and the Royal College of Physicians (RCP), this programme is specifically designed to equip doctors with the non-clinical skills that are essential to senior positions, such as clinical director, medical director and chief executive. In a rapidly changing NHS, clinicians are increasingly being called upon to lead services, making these skills more important than ever before.
The programme provides comprehensive coverage of leadership and management, balancing academic theory with content relevant to the workplace. Academic content is put into clinical context through medical case studies, presented by expert speakers including postgraduate deans, medical directors and hospital chief executives.
The MSc in Medical Leadership supports and develops the skills outlined in the medical leadership competency framework, produced by the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges and the NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement.
The programme is open to senior doctors in any specialty, such as medicine, surgery and public health. This is a part-time, modular programme, which can be completed in two to five years. All teaching is delivered at the Royal College of Physicians in Regent's Park, London.
