Overview
This programme is designed for existing arts managers who wish to develop their practice and understanding of the background, theories and principles of arts and cultural management, or for those who wish to pursue a career in arts management and who satisfy other entry criteria.
It explores the requirements and benefits of strategic management, balancing theory and practice within the context of the prevailing social, political, economic and technological environments. It focuses on public and voluntary sector arts organisations, but also addresses key commercial sector issues.

Course structure
MA (Part-time)
Year 1 provides you with a general grounding in arts management, and you will take the first of two pathway modules (chosen from the following pathways: curating; performing arts; arts marketing; cultural heritage; and arts education).
Year 1: all students undertake the core programme, including:
Year 2: take an option module and your second pathway module, as well as a series of research methodology workshops. You will also write a dissertation.

- Curating pathway – Curating as Critical Practice; Creating Contemporary Exhibitions
- Performing Arts pathway – Managing the Performing Arts; Staging Music Events and Festivals
- Arts Marketing pathway – Marketing: Strategies and Planning; Marketing Communications 2
- Cultural Heritage pathway – Cultural Heritage Management; The Art of Interpretation and Implementation in Cultural Heritage
- Arts Education pathway – Arts and Education; Arts Education in Action.
Option modules:
- Arts Management and Urban Renewal
- The Inside Out of Culture: Theories and Institutions
- Work Placement
- Managing the Arts: Business and Legal Aspects.
Please note that not all option modules are available every year and maximum class numbers will be fixed.
MA (Full-time)
As above, covered in one year.
Postgraduate Diploma
As for the MA, but without the dissertation.
Postgraduate Certificate
Take the core modules Arts Policy and Planning and Arts Administration and Management and one pathway module.
