Overview
The MSc Management offers a solid grounding in key areas of business and management. It is not recommended for students whose first degree is in business or management. The MRes Management is a research-oriented degree.
For those who want to specialise, we also offer a number of focused streams associated with the MSc Management. These streams allow students to combine parts of the MSc Management with modules drawn from the various specialist postgraduate programmes of the Department of Management, and from our joint programmes with other departments at Birkbeck. The streams are suitable both for students with and without prior study of business or management. The streams offered are:
- MSc Management with Business Innovation
- MSc Management with Business Strategy and the Environment
- MSc Management with Corporate Governance and Business Ethics
- MSc Management with Creative Industries
- MSc Management with Human Resource Management
- MSc Management with International Business
- MSc Management with International Business and Development
- MSc Management with Marketing
- MSc Management with Sport Management.

Course structure
MSc Management
The MSc comprises eight taught modules and a 15,000-word dissertation. There are five compulsory modules:
- Accounting and Financial Management (unless you have previously studied accounting or finance, in which case this will be replaced by a suitable module approved by your personal tutor)
- Marketing Strategy and Planning
- Principles of Organization and Management
- Research Methods I
- Strategic Management.
You will also choose one of the following option modules:

MRes Management
The MRes comprises six taught modules and a 25,000-word dissertation. There are two compulsory modules:

- Marketing Strategy and Planning
- Perspectives on Organization
- Principles of Human Resource Management

and one advanced research methods module:
Plus one free choice of module from any other postgraduate modules in the Department of Management or, subject to approval, modules from other departments.
