Why study this course at Birkbeck?
This programme prepares you for the examination of non-western arts and their representations with an analytical eye. It is a fundamental complement to the study of art in general, because it refines your sense of observation, develops your critical skills and exposes you to rarely seen examples of non-western arts in the British Museum collections.
Studying World Arts and Artefacts at certificate level is a perfect opportunity, not only to expand your knowledge but also to apply it to a number of art-related jobs and occupations, such as art consultant, museum guide or art historian. Due to its practical component, the programme can also be useful for practising artists wishing to learn new skills in areas such as Arabic calligraphy or Chinese brush-painting.
Birkbeck World Arts and Artefacts students get 10% off all British Museum Press books in the British Museum shop and online.
