Mystery and Medieval Imagery
This module considers art inspired by and reflecting Christianity in medieval Europe. It examines a range of subject matter (for example, biblical scenes, saints' lives, personifications of virtues/vices), aiming to show how a variety of narrative and symbolic images came to provide visual counterparts for central tenets of the religion. The relationship between scripture and imagery will underpin the analysis.
