Course structure and modules
-
To gain the Certificate of Higher Education, you must successfully complete modules worth a total of 120 credit points. Take the three core modules (worth a total of 45 credits) and choose option modules worth 75 credits.
Problem Solving and Decision Making (Cognitive Psychology) and Psychology of Learning and Learning Styles should normally be taken first. The remaining Level 4 modules may be taken in any order, except Advanced Research Methods for Psychology, and Statistics and SPSS for Psychology – these two option modules are normally taken last. You may take more than one module at a time. You may choose option modules from the list of selected psychoanalytic psychology modules, to a maximum value of 30 credits. You may also choose to take communication skills modules to a maximum value of 60 credits.
Please note that in future years this Certificate of Higher Education is likely to have fewer option modules than are currently available. Consequently, you are advised to take the opportunity to enrol for any option modules you are particularly interested in or need to complete, in case these are not available next year.
You may consider enrolling on our Choosing your Course workshop if you need advice on choosing your programme of study. If you wish to take modules totalling more than 60 credits during one academic year, you should first seek approval from the psychology subject team.
Students may be awarded a Certificate of Continuing Education as an intermediate award on completion of modules worth 60 credits, including the core modules Problem Solving and Decision Making (Cognitive Psychology), Psychology of Learning and Learning Styles, Research Methods for Psychology and one other 15-credit module. You may not register for the Certificate of Continuing Education as an entry qualification, as it is only awarded as an intermediate award to those unable to complete their Certificate of Higher Education during the normal period of registration.
