Portuguese IB (Beginners)

This 16-week module builds on Portuguese 1A to expand your basic language skills through writing, listening, reading and speaking exercises and leads to CEFR A2 (Elementary)/GCSE level.* It will introduce you to cultural elements of the Afro-Luso-Brazilian world appropriate to the level. Falar... Ler... Escrever... Portugues: um curso para estrangeiros is used as a textbook, supported by a wide range of other materials. You will gain a basic knowledge of grammatical structures, including different grammar tenses and vocabulary, and will have enough vocabulary to ‘survive’ and deal with predictable and/or specific information in simple everyday situations. An understanding of how to study Portuguese independently and engage with Portuguese speakers will be enhanced by the use of internet-based tools such as Blackboard, MSN, Facebook and Skype. You will also be encouraged to attend cultural events related to Portuguese-speaking countries taking place in the UK.
