Exploring Wellcome 2: Medicine, Society and the Making of Modern Europe since 1800

Based at the Wellcome Library, this module explores the emergence of modern medicine from the beginning of the nineteenth century to the present day in European society. It assesses how historians have interpreted the radical changes in the last 250 years of European medicine. We will discover how the response of medical practitioners, institutions, legislators and the general public to health problems always reflected, and at the same time contributed to, changing social and cultural ideas and attitudes in modern European society.
