Course structure and modules

To gain the Certificate of Higher Education, you must successfully complete modules worth 120 credit points. This is made up of four modules: three at Level 4 and one at Level 5.
You take the modules Approaches to Language, Analysing Language Structure and Use, and Japanese I and II or II and III, depending on your proficiency in the language over two years.

Further study opportunities
You can transfer the credit you have gained from this programme and move into the second year of Birkbeck's BA Linguistics and Language (Japanese pathway) or the second year of our BA Linguistics and Culture.
If you already have a BA/BSc degree, you might want to consider taking our one-year part-time Graduate Certificate in Linguistic Studies instead. This can be used as preparation for Master's study for graduates in other subjects.
