Alternative and Activist Media
This module introduces you to the contemporary landscape of alternative and activist media, both in the UK and internationally. We will examine the history of alternative media from political pamphlets and pirate radio to online dissidence and grass-roots media, and review the strategies that activists use to wield the media as a political weapon. We will also look at the ethics of alternative journalism, in particular the tension between traditional journalistic principles and the use of the media for political effect.
