Portuguese (2A) Int/Adv Language Course (subject to Placement Test)
This 16-week module leads to CEFR Lower B1 (Lower Intermediate)/lower AS level*. This module will develop your ability to interact in Brazilian Portuguese in a wider range of everyday situations, while gaining an increased awareness of everyday life and the diversity of cultures in Brazil and other Portuguese-speaking countries. Falar... Ler... Escrever... Portuguêes: um curso para estrangeiros is used as a textbook, supported by a wide range of other materials. You will be introduced to the media in Portuguese and will be expected to understand the gist of news and other radio and TV programmes. You will begin to learn the uses of the subjunctive tenses, relative pronouns and indirect speech, basic idioms and expressions, as well as some of the differences between Brazilian Portuguese and Portuguese spoken in other countries. An understanding of how to study Portuguese independently and engage with Portuguese speakers will be enhanced through the use of internet-based tools such as Blackboard, MSN, Facebook and Skype. You will also be encouraged to attend cultural events related to Portuguese-speaking countries taking place in London.
