Why study this course at Birkbeck?
We live in a world where cultural interaction is increasing. Social anthropology is a subject that raises important questions about people, societies and cultures. Anthropologists traditionally focused on 'other' people in small-scale societies, examining their myths, rituals, kinship patterns, and political and economic systems. Today, cross-cultural perspectives also enable us to gain a critical insight into both our own lives and our engagement with other places, cultures and people. You will explore global questions of power and resources, as well as anthropological perspectives on gender, material culture, identity, religion and culture.
