Legal Studies (Certificate of Higher Education), 2011/2012 entry (part-time study)

What will I be studying?

To gain the Certificate of Higher Education, you must successfully complete modules worth a total of 120 credit points. Take the compulsory module Legal Reasoning and Analysis (worth 30 credits) and choose from the following option modules (worth a total of 90 credit points):

  • Criminal Law
  • Human Rights
  • Intellectual Property Law
  • The Criminal Justice Process
  • Transforming Violent Conflict in World Politics.

Please note: this programme will be running for the last time in 2011–2012. Students who are currently enrolled on the programme, or who have successfully completed one or more modules on the programme in previous years, may undertake modules up to a maximum of 90 credits in 2011–2012 to complete their award.

Students enrolled on other Birkbeck awards may enrol on these modules with the approval of the course director. You may also be able to include modules from other Certificate of Higher Education programmes. Please contact the course administrator if you have any questions.

What can I go on to do?

The School of Law offers an LLB programme. If you wish to progress to studying law at degree level, you may be interested in the Certificate of Higher Education in Legal Methods.

Credits from this award may also be counted towards Birkbeck's BSc Social Science
