Higher Education Introductory Studies (‘Introductions’ and ‘Learning Strategies’ modules), 2011/2012 entry (part-time study)

The ‘Introductions’ modules provide the opportunity to try out Birkbeck’s unique evening study while gaining a foundation in the learning approaches and study skills that are needed for successful undergraduate study. You will be encouraged to relate your experiences outside formal learning to the readings and debates that you are introduced to as part of these modules. You will also learn about the process of personal development planning in higher education and how information and communication technologies can be used most effectively to support academic study.

The 'Learning Strategies' half-module, held in September, is designed for students wishing to develop their learning approaches and study skills before starting an undergraduate course in October. Over a series of sessions, your tutor will guide you in how to prepare most effectively for your studies.

What can I go on to do?

Students who successfully complete an 'Introductions' module may be able to use the credit gained towards another Birkbeck award, such as a Certificate of Higher Education, foundation degree or the first year of a BA/BSc degree.
