Dictatorships and Crisis in Europe, 1917-1949: A Political and Social History
This module compares the differing fascist dictatorships in Germany, Italy, Spain and Portugal with Stalin’s USSR, and considers the role of the upheavals of the mid-twentieth century in facilitating the spread of communist regimes. Crucially, it explores experiences of ordinary people through comparing the social history of Nazi Germany with that of communist states.
