Understanding Museums: Contemporary Issues in Heritage and Interpretation
This module considers why objects are displayed in certain forms in museums and what issues affect the way we experience the past through exhibition. The sessions will be based at museums in London, where we will explore different collections relating to archaeology, ethnology and social history. Through talks, discussion and input from museum professionals, we will consider issues relating to object display, interpretation and audience, as well as the particular challenges that exhibiting each type of collection presents.
