Overview
Are you a budding writer who wants to hone their skills? Or do you just need some inspiration to finish that novel? Then enrol on this course - inspire your creativity, deepen your awareness of the writer's craft and learn to write more confidently and fluently. It is suitable for absolute beginners and those who have taken a creative writing course before. You will explore creative writing in a variety of genres: fiction, poetry, drama, life writing and writing for children. You will be taught by published writers, who will offer constructive feedback and informed discussion of your creative work.

Course structure and modules
To gain the Certificate of Higher Education, you must successfully complete modules worth 120 credit points. All modules are 11 weeks of 3-hour sessions. In Year 1, you will choose 2 consecutive modules from Group A; in Year 2, you will choose 2 consecutive modules from Group B.
Group A: Introducing the Craft of Writing
These modules introduce you to the basic elements of the writer’s craft in a range of genres. The emphasis is on discovery, technique and experimentation. They are designed for beginner-level students who have ever taken a creative writing module before and may include:- Starting to Write: Drama (AREN089S4)
- Starting to Write: Fiction (AREN090S4)
- Starting to Write: Poetry (AREN091S4).
Group B: Developing the Craft of Writing
These modules develop your awareness and control of key elements of the writer’s craft. The emphasis is on building your confidence and control of language, broadening awareness of the process of writing, and developing a writer’s voice. They are designed for students who have previously taken the requisite modules from Group A and may include:- Developing your Fiction (FFCW061S4)
- Life Writing (FFCW069S4)
- Novel Writing (FFCW010S4)
- Playwriting Workshop (AREN009S4)
- Poetry Workshop (AREN008S4)
- Short Story Workshop (FFCW063S4)
- Writing for Children and Teenagers (AREN136S4).
