One year of part-time intensive study, from September to June, or two years if you decide to take only one subject per year.

Two evenings a week for 30 weeks from September to June, or one evening a week if you aim to complete the award over two years. Three Saturdays each for the Study and Research Skills for Physics and Mathematics and the Personal Progress and Development Planning modules.

You will need to demonstrate a good level of numeracy and algebraic skills, and English language skills. These will be assessed at a consultation interview, where you will receive guidance from our lecturers on which subject areas best meet your interests and potential, so you can plan your study and career progression effectively.

You may be advised to attend our preparation weeks, which are taught in July and prior to the start of the programme in September.

There are several different fee categories, depending on whether you already have an undergraduate qualification (like a BA/BSc or Certificate of Higher Education) or are eligible for a concessionary fee. Click here for more information about fees.

Our team of lecturers are dedicated to providing a wide range of opportunities for adult learners interested in mathematics and its application to solving problems, both abstract and in the real world. A variety of teaching methods are used in class, including lectures, presentations, demonstrations, discussions and problem-solving, individually or in groups. All modules are supported by online learning material. 

Parts 1 and 2 of each subject are assessed by coursework and tests only, with some assignments completed in class and some at home. Parts 3 include both coursework and a final examination (taken in late May/early June). The Saturday modules are assessed by coursework (pass/fail) only.

You will need to complete an application pack with home exercises and to book a consultation interview with our science lecturers by contacting the subject team (see 'Find out more'). The consultation and enrolment process starts in March and continues throughout the summer. You are advised to apply early, as demand for places is very high. Students who have been offered a place following their interview will be contacted individually regarding their enrolment.
