Psychodynamic counselling: an introduction to key listening skills

Our one-week, 25-hour Psychodynamic Counselling: an introduction to key listening skills course in London is designed for anyone who would like to try a ‘taster’ course, perhaps before committing themselves to the two-year, pre-clinical psychodynamic training Certificate of Higher Education.

This introductory course uses a mix of academic learning and experiential class-based exercises to introduce you to the basic ideas and principles of psychodynamic practice. In the class you will be introduced to the key psychodynamic skill of listening to conscious and unconscious communication.

The course can be taken in its own right or alongside any of the other short counselling units. There is no formal assessment.

Our Psychodynamic Counselling short course is planned to run in 2021. Please and we will let you know when you can enrol.

This module is non-accredited and carries no credit points.

    Visa requirements

If you are not from the European Economic Area (EEA) and/or Switzerland and you are coming to study in the UK, you may need to apply for a visa.

The visa you apply for varies according to the length of your course:

    • Courses of more than six months' duration.
    • Courses of less than six months' duration.
    • Pre-sessional English language courses.

International students who require a Tier 4 visa should apply for our full-time courses (with the exception of modular enrolment certificates of higher education and graduate certificates), as these qualify for Tier 4 sponsorship. If you are living in the UK on a Tier 4 visa, you will not be eligible to enrol as a student on Birkbeck's part-time courses (with the exception of some modules).
